Architectural concept and design approach
The architectural concept revolves around an organic form excavated and printed on site.
Radiation protection and thermal Insulation are the main causes for the underground structure concept. Moreover this concept allows the use of local materials and the optimization of the construction process using one 3D printer which will be limited in its movement to avoid accidents and damage to the machine.
The interior design concept is intended to avoid isolation by creating open spaces.
Moreover, Immersion Rooms using augmented reality will be available for entertainment.
Using the alveoli structural pattern storage spaces and individual room windows are created. All the furniture's will be printed directly during the 3D printing of the whole of the habitat. Large windows directly integrated during the printing open the view on the horizon of Mars.
Leisure areas include a bar with various games and a sports room equipped with facilities that take into account Mars’s low gravity. Water facilities are designed on top of each other to optimize pipe and duct routes. Hydroponic greenhouse farming facilities will be available.
Founded in 2010, SYNTETIC XD has been providing detailed engineering services as well as technical and architectural coordination services. We specialize in implementing BIM (Building Information Modeling) processes in every phase of our projects, from preliminary design phases through to building operations and maintenance. Our young and innovative talent pool of engineers, architects, 3D artists and software engineers has a large experience using multi software 3D building models and 3D model printing (printed small scale models in 2013 and 2014).
We thrive for higher quality on all our projects using cutting-edge technology such as 3D Laser Scanning, Augmented Reality and, of course, 3D printing. Our projects partners include leading manufacturers and industry specialists such as Thales and Saint-Gobain.
Our BIM inspired processes based on coordination and collaboration gives our team a global and complete approach to all challenges in order to produce the highest quality solutions. We have coordinated large scale projects such as the Louvre Museum renovation, The Ajaccio Hospital project and other housing and hotel projects.
Our extensive knowledge and know-how in surface and volume optimization and rationalization has served our clients in challenging projects such as The Louis Vuitton Foundation Museum and the Arena 92 Stadium where we studied the complex facades and cladding systems from design intent to fabrication drawing production to on-site assembly.
Using our expertise in parametric design, we have developed and rationalized design such as the Doha (Qatar) Green line underground subway project.
Mars Site Selection
The ideal site would be located in the North above the 45° Latitude line.
The crater area not far from the North Pole, close to the Korolev crater situated 73° North latitude can
An equivalent testing site on Earth would be the Atacama Desert in Chile.
A.I Design
An Artificial intelligence program will be in charge of environmental and site analysis to provide the most efficient and optimized framing and architecture for the habitat (see fig 1,2,3)
The structural pattern density can be increased according to the mechanical characteristics of the material used.
3D-Print Constructability
The 3D printer will have two independent arms: one to excavate,
one to print. It will construct the house from the inside as shown in the diagram and can be used for repair as well.. The openings created by the grid can be
implemented as windows when necessary.
